Baby Found in Dumpster being Eaten by Ants!

I know this isn't very humorous, but I felt the need to share this anyhow. In Florida, a baby was found in a dumpster being eaten by ants. This type of incident makes me sick! There is no reason why that person couldn't have just as easily dropped the child off at a hospital or firehouse. This would have spared the child all the pain and possible death, not to mention a bucket load of the tax payers money treating the infant now and later if any lasting damage is caused. UHG! so upsetting. Hope they find the person who did this and force them into a hot smelly metal box with lots of ants!

  1. The report indicates that the baby was recovering well in the hospital. The Shiloh Zoe Hope Foundation , a non-profit organisation that offers free help to unwanted babies and their mothers, was collaborating with the department of social services to find him a safe place to live after he left hospital.

Police were investigating the case. It is currently unclear who left baby Caleb at the dump or why he was discarded in such a way.

  2. According to an older story, the baby in this picture was taken from its dead mother in Spain and left in the dumpster by the mortician who did the embalming.

  3. Why does adoption have to be such a struggle when there are so many "unwanted" children out there???? I can think of at least ONE family that would love a baby!!! MINE!

  5. this is by far one of the saddest & most upsetting stories i have ever heard . what kind of child deserves to be treated like that . im pretty sure no human being would want to be thrown into a dirty gross dumpster , filled with ants . so why do it to an infant ? && if the baby's dead mom was in Spain why would he be in Florida ?

  7. Are you or a friend taking care of this child, Nurse Lexie? If so, do you realize that this website is a HIPPA violation and that child has rights to privacy!?

  8. I am well aware of HIPPA and would never have taken this picture at my work to post it on a blog. This picture was part of the an article I read and found while researching this child's case. Thank you for your concern.

  9. A little critique on the opening article...
"I know this isn't very humerous" I would say this is not humerous in the least bit. You mentioned this makes you sick. It should make you upset at the evil and uncaring way that people have become. But then you mention that the tax payers will have to flip the bill for this... does that really matter when someone is in need? Then you want to turn around and do the same to the person who did this to the baby? Does two wrongs make a right? What if this was a mentally ill person (obviously they are to some degree)who could not see what they were doing as wrong? Or perhaps a person high on meth or cocaine and didn't know what they were doing at the time? For a nurse... you sure don't think very clearly yourself. Understanding is very important. And health professionals and law enforcement could use a big dose of it. Everybody could.

  10. I understand that many people feel the compulsive need critique and correct everyone around them, however, i would like for this blog to be a place where healthcare providers can rant, rave, and not be completely politically correct. If you feel the need to nit-pick or debate peoples thoughts, please direct yourself to a different blog where that is the goal. I would like people to be able to share their thoughts free of judgement (myself included). That being said, still would like to give this parent a taste of their own medicine (would I ever do it - no). I still believe that healthcare costs are ridiculously high because of stupid people and that is a problem. It doesn't mean I don't believe in helping those in need. And YES! It does matter. Using thousands of dollars of tax payers money to treat a child who should have never been sick is a BIG DEAL!

  11. Happy2BeFree,

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I have a drug abusing sister who has multiple times put her infant at risk. I have since adopted this little girl to keep her safe from her mother's actions. It doesn't matter in the slightest if the person who is responsible for this babies pain is a drug addict or not. The baby did not choose to be born to a drug addict...nor should it not have the same rights as any of us who could be assaulted and or murdered by the hands of someone hopped up on drugs. CHOICES!!! everyone makes them, even drug addicts. They should have to pay the consequences just like everyone else. My same drug addict sister abuses her medicare health benefits CONSTANTLY. Driving up the health care costs for people like me. She goes into the ER for phantom symptoms in a hope to come out with prescription pain pills. I personally think it is absolutely wrong that the tax payers get to help pay for her addictions. Nurse Lexie..you were right on.

  12. I think you mean Medicaid, because Medicare is for the elderly. If she is on Medicare, that could paint a completely different story. Imagine a 65 year old meth addict that gets pregnant. Would you be amazed or angry? Was she even older? My sister the 85 year old crack head, just had her ultrasound and she is having twins...

    1. Actually, you are incorrect in your smartAlec remarks. People on disability get Medicare and if they are low income they can also get Medicaid. So, she could be correct in stating Medicare but maybe not.
